100 miles north of the Arctic Circle lies one of Europe’s last untarnished patch of pristine wilderness, the King’s Trail. Along this 270-mile path, the only sign of civilization is the path itself. During the winter time it is a wonderland of snow, but the summer sun brings life and color to the forest.
(The King’s Trail, Sweden)

Share your travel stories at Kudofly.

Bora Bora, nicknamed “The Romantic Island”, is actually Pora Pora meaning “first born” in Tahitian. It is perhaps one of the most peaceful place… there are no poisonous snake or insects in the French Polynesia and Hawaii gets more visitors in 10 days than French Polynesia gets in an entire year!
(Bora Bora, France)

The trail to Cinque Terre are lined with scenic vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards. Cinque Terre is one of the best preserved natural and semi-natural areas of the Mediterranean because of geomorphological reasons which forbid excessive housing developments. The historic area contains five colorful villages, each with its own flavor, delicately carved into the cliff.
(Cinque Terre, Italy)

The enchanting Socotra Island is located off the coast of Yemen in the Indian Ocean. One-third of the vegetation and flora here are unique only to the island… it is often described as one of the most alien-looking place on Earth. The Socotrans of the sparsely populated island greet one another by touching their noses.
(Socotra, Yemen)

The wild rock formations of Cappadocia were created by volcanic eruptions and smoothed by wind and rain over time. The first human settlers in prehistoric periods constructed the underground cities in the volcanic rocks to protect themselves from wild animals. Many of the tall caves served as early warning systems. They light up with fire from end to end to warn others of an invading army.
(Cappadocia, Turkey)

Hang Son Doong, meaning “Mountain River cave”, might be the world’s largest cave. It somehow managed to escape detection during previous British caving expeditions until several years ago when a local farmer found the entrance to this subterranean world. Exploring the cave is no easy task as it is inhabited by poisionous centipedes.
(Hang Son Doong, Vietnam)

The calcium carbonate found in the limestone of the rocks helps give the water of Plitvice Lakes in Croatia its intense turquoise color. These minerals flow into the lake and interact with plants and vegetations to give it its cool vibrant tone. Behind the lakes’ beauty lies the tragedy of war however. The first shot of the Yugoslavian war was fired here on Easter Sunday of 1991.
(Plitvice Lakes, Croatia)

Pioneers arriving later kept mispronouncing the name as “Da ow”, eventually evolving into Tahoe. Lake Tahoe also held other names prior to its official and final designation in 1945 including “Lake Bigler” and “Bompland.”

The ancient city of Petra is widely known for its gorgeous rock cut architecture. The city was literally carved from the sandstone cliffs of Jordan and its cultural significance remains today. It is considered one of the new 7 Wonders of the World. It was discovered in 1812 after being lost by the 16th century for almost 300 years!
(Petra, Jordan)

Little is known about this town prior to the 19th century. It was primarily settled by farmers, fishermen, miners and mango and banana plantation owners in the mid-1800s. Puerto Vallarta went “hollywood” with the filming of The Night of the Iguana in Mismaloya, a small town slightly south. The scandal of Richard Burton and Eliabeth Taylor’s affair put Puerto Vallarta on the map as a travel location. Since then, it has developed into Mexico’s premier resort town and is considered the most welcoming and gay-friendly destination in the country.
(Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)

A healthy dynamic competition between man and nature. Ta Prohm is the modern name of a temple at Angkor, Cambodia. Interestingly enough, a rare inscription provides statistics on the temple workers. The inscription brags 80,000 workers… an exaggeration to honor the king, but still amazing nonetheless. Because of its isolation, Ta Prohm was heavily looted and many of the ancient artifacts are now gone.
(Ta Prohm Temple, Cambodia)

The fences alongside of the paths are still made from the twigs of fallen bamboo stalks as used to be everywhere in Mainland Japan.
